The unique concert on the occasion of the feast of the University of Silesia will take place at 8 PM on Monday, 8 June 2020.

The coronavirus pandemic affected the lives of billions of people around the world, causing e.g. the closure of cultural institutions. Media are promoting the slogan #stayhome. However, this time does not necessarily mean that we must get bored and give up concerts and live music, because they are shared online.

The University of Silesia is not indifferent to the situation and prepared a unique concert entitled ‘We Are Together’, which was recorded in the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia. In this way, we want to emphasize that the University community is formed of individuals who are ready to share their works with the whole society in such a difficult time.

Until now, we celebrated by inviting people to participate in an academic concert in the concert hall. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, such a meeting of the academic community and its friends will not be possible, therefore, we would like to invite you to a virtual concert.

Invitation

Prof. Andrzej Kowalczyk

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On 8 June 2020 we celebrate the 52nd anniversary of establishment of the University of Silesia and its scientific activity, as well as its work for the benefit of its social and economic environment.

Until now, we celebrated by inviting people to participate in an academic concert in the concert hall. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, such a meeting of the academic community and its friends will not be possible, therefore, we would like to invite you to the concert in virtual space. The University of Silesia prepared a unique concert entitled ‘We Are Together’, which was recorded in the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia. In this way, we are proving that the University community is formed of individuals who are ready to share their works with the whole society in such a difficult time. In the period of epidemic risk, our University community gave a testimony of solidarity and responsibility. I would like to thank all academics, non-academic staff, doctoral students and students for understanding the seriousness of the situation, adapting to the new working and studying conditions, as well as for their dedication and readiness to help one another.

I wish you good health and unshakeable faith in good future, as well as unforgettable musical impressions during the premier of the concert (Monday, 8 June 2020, 8 PM, youtube.com/UniwersytetSlaski), which is organised remotely for the very first time. Especially in this difficult period we must be together, support and be kind to one another – it is a special moment, unprecedented in the history of our University. Although we are separated, let us be together.

Kind regards,
Prof. Andrzej Kowalczyk
Rector of the University of Silesia
