26.05.2023 - 10:45, update 13.07.2023 - 14:17
Editors: OO

The ‘History and Social Educatorium’ is a joint initiative of the University of Silesia (represented by the USil Institute of History) and the City of Katowice. The meetings are financed with the support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The project is to improve the quality of teaching such subjects as: history, history and present times, and citizenship education in Katowice schools and universities. The educational materials designed and prepared by experts are to make it easier for teachers to conduct classes on an often difficult and sensitive topic also concerning the relations between Poland and Ukraine over the centuries. They will also indicate differences in perceiving important social and historical events. The educational series was designed bearing in mind the education of mixed classes, which requires a particularly sensitive approach and care for the needs of each pupil due to cultural and national diversity. Raising students’ awareness about the history of Poland and Ukraine and improving mutual relations through education is to increase the level of tolerance and understanding between the nations.

The conference opening the project takes place on 31 May 2023 at 10 a.m. in classroom B0.38 at the Open University at the University of Silesia (Katowice, ul. Uniwersytecka 4). The inaugural lecture on the image of Ukraine and Ukrainians in the contemporary Polish history textbooks will be delivered by Maciej Fic, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof.
