The ceremony of Conferring the Honorary Doctorate Degree of the University of Silesia in Katowice to Prof. Jerzy Nikitorowicz will feature a side event: the international scientific conference entitled ‘Education against values and norms of social order: ideas – discourses – research’ organised on 25–26 June 2024 (spinPLACE, ul. Bankowa 5 in Katowice).
The talks and discussions within the conference will revolve around theoretical and practical issues of contemporary Polish and foreign education. The conference is to focus on several crucial thematic areas concerning, among others:
- current conditions and contexts of education, including changes in the sphere of values, valuing and social order,
- condition of education as a discipline, its subdisciplines – social and intercultural education, and the area of social practices,
- multi-dimensional aspects in the lives of individuals/groups and enriching their social experiences,
- relationships in the chain: individual – culture – multiculturalism – education,
- restoring and building a culture of mutual trust and a sense of community,
- continuity of and changes in transmitting the cultural heritage in the social space,
- perspectives in the development of identity, condition and obligations of education.
Additionally, the conference is a solemn scientific event celebrating the University of Silesia’s two jubilees: the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the 35th anniversary of a unit at the Faculty of Arts and Educational Science called Cieszyn Research School for Borderland Culture and Education.
