International Congress on Education Quality

08.09.2023 - 15:16, update 05.10.2023 - 13:42
Editors: OO

The International Congress on Education Quality will take place from 18 to 20 October. This is the second edition of the event, which gathers those interested in issues related to education quality assurance systems, education quality monitoring, accreditation, internationalisation of education, development of educational competencies and distance learning. Our goal is to enable the participants of the Congress to exchange experiences and to encourage joint initiatives as part of the Academic Consortium Katowice – City of Science.

Day 1

Meetings of learning communities

The subject of the meetings will be the improvement of educational competencies of people conducting classes and people who administratively support their qualitative implementation, including competencies related to the rationalisation of the procedure for verifying learning outcomes, modernisation of tools for designing and conducting classes, implementation of educational methods conducive to the individualisation of education, analysis of good practices in education quality in the light of the Polish Accreditation Committee assessment and the issues of creating and modifying modern curricula.

We invite all those who are responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating and improving academic education at universities, their specific faculties and degree programmes.

Day 2

Challenges of university education in the changing reality

Inauguration of the 2nd edition of the International Congress on Education Quality

These days, we all experience the impact of artificial intelligence on the learning process and the selection of methods to verify the achievement of learning outcomes. Therefore, we consider it necessary to include technological achievements, especially those regarding artificial neural networks, in various areas of university education. The expert discussion scheduled for the second day of the Congress will be an opportunity to try to develop directions and ways of using artificial intelligence in university education.

The other discussion panels on the second day of the Congress will also focus on important issues, the participants of the event will discuss, among others, the mechanism of certifying the achievement of learning outcomes oriented towards specific practical skills, common in various institutions of the European Union. Developing a system enabling the issuance of micro-credentials may be a remedy for the changing needs of learners, especially lifelong learners. Issues related to the Polish Accreditation Committee accreditations are still a significant challenge in the organisation of education. The exchange of good practices by experts dealing with accreditation procedures will allow to strengthen this type of competencies among people who are responsible for improving the quality of education at universities.

On the second day of the Congress will also include the meetings of people – employees of seven Katowice universities – dealing with the organisation of education and improving its quality. Discussions among specialists will be conducive to deepening cooperation and the exchange of good practices.

Day 3

Education for peace – international experiences

The third day of the Congress will include presentation of activities that the Consortium institutions are undertaking, may undertake or intensify in the future in order to improve the quality of education in international cooperation. This applies both to research and teaching cooperation aimed at ensuring high quality education, implementing modern methodological solutions, as well as the possibility of applying for international accreditations and the benefits resulting from it. The theme will be education for peace, broadly understood as education for dialogue, openness, tolerance, and wise neighbourly relations. There will also be presentations of intellectual results developed as part of the cooperation of international consortia, for example projects implemented under the Erasmus+, Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange and EEA programmes and projects financed from the Visegrad Funds. Day 3 will also include training meetings dedicated to effective application for international teaching or research grants that affect the quality of education.

Tools, Methods, Educational Cooperation Networks Poster Session

The posters will present the results of projects carried out by the Consortium’s universities in cooperation with foreign partners. Some of the results are of a practical nature, they are various types of tools and teaching materials ready for use in the academic setting, published in open access. The results of the research conducted by the project teams are also various types of reports and recommendations on different aspects of modern academic education. The presentation of networks cooperating within individual projects may be an opportunity to establish contacts with new foreign partners.
