„Human being and microorganisms” is the leading theme of Biologists’ Night 2021. We are invited to the magical world of natural sciences, joint discoveries and academic discussions by the organiser of the Katowice edition – Institute of Biology, Biotechnology and Environmental Protection at the University of Silesia.
What and when?
On 8 January you will be able to find out whether it is possible to edit a human genome, why viruses do not live and how bacteria help us in our daily lives, as well as what PCR, a recently hot topic, is. Biologists’ Night at the University of Silesia includes meetings in four thematic panels:
- “We fight against microorganisms”,
- „We need microorganisms”,
- “Microorganisms in biotechnology and environmental protection”,
- as well as “Microorganisms drive the development of biology”.
What can the participants expect?
A scientific feast, dynamic tale, and meetings with scientists. Several lectures, workshops and shows, surprises and competitions with prizes have been prepared for them. Participation in the event is also the possibility to get to know employees of the Institute of Biology, Biotechnology and Environmental Protection at the University of Silesia. An opportunity to look into laboratories and workrooms, and to find out the results of conducted research.
The slogan of the upcoming edition, so up-to-date in the context of the current epidemiological situation, encourages to obtain proven and reliable knowledge in the field of biological sciences, and get to know this beautiful and mysterious world.
The tenth jubilee edition of the event will take place in virtual space. The event is addressed to school youth and inhabitants of the region. The broadcast link will be provided soon. Let’s spend this January evening together!
