Applications for the programme and registration for the Open Knowledge: Wikimedia & Research in the CEE Region conference are now open. The conference will take place on 9–10 October 2026 in Katowice, with satellite events scheduled for 8 October.
The event is organised by the University of Silesia in Katowice, Wikimedia Poland, and Wikimedia Ukraine.
The conference is the first of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe, connecting the Wikimedia community with researchers involved in Wikimedia projects, open science, and knowledge democratisation.
The Wikimedia movement, based on community collaboration and operating non-profit, provides significant support for the development of open science, increasing the accessibility, visibility, reuse, and real social impact of research results.
The conference programme includes:
- open science,
- digital communities and models of knowledge co-creation,
- the use of Wikimedia projects in education and academic libraries,
- Wikidata and open data,
- the impact of artificial intelligence on the information ecosystem,
- countering disinformation.
Detailed information on the thematic paths is available on the programme website: Open Knowledge: Wikimedia & Research in the CEE Region – Meta-Wiki.
The programme will include research and practical presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and a space for exchanging experiences. The conference will provide a meeting place for people from diverse backgrounds working at the intersection of scientific research, open science, education, and Wikimedia projects, strengthening interdisciplinary and international collaboration and the relationship between science and practice.
You can apply to the programme by 30 June 2026.
Registration is open until 24 August 2026.
We especially invite researchers, PhD students, students, data scientists, and academic librarians to participate.
