As part of the series of trainings for scientists ‘Visibility of scientific research’, the last meeting, ‘Open Access Publishing’, will take place.
About the training
The training will cover the following topics:
- what is open access to publications?;
- consequences of open access: benefits and dangers;
- how to recognise an Open Access publication and types of open access?;
- how to check if a journal is open access?;
- can a publication be deposited in a repository? Checking publisher policies;
- funder requirements and open publishing programs.
The meeting will be led by Aneta Drabek, PhD and Michał Tomaszek, MA. The training will take place online on MS Teams on two dates:

‘Visibility of scientific research’ series
A series of trainings is carried out by the University Rankings Committee with the support of the Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library. The aim is to help improve the visibility of research results.
Meeting topics
- ‘Scientist’s profile‘. Completed in December 2022;
- ‘Citations in Scopus and Web of Science databases’ – use of citation reports, care for the correct data in the database. Completed in January 2023;
- ‘How to write and publish a scientific article’ – training run by an external expert – Elsevier Author Workshop. Completed in March 2023;
- ‘Choosing journals for publication’ – tools of publishers (e.g. Elsevier Journal Finder), use of databases, checking the journal’s “reputation”, (IF, CiteScore); Completed in April 2023;
- ‘Open-access journals’ – Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), searching for open-access journals in Web of Science, searching for open-access journals in the Scopus database, Polish open-access journals.
