Rev. Assoc. Prof. Janusz Mariański, an authority in the field of sociology of religion and sociology of morality, a man of unequalled erudite and diagnostic qualities, received an honorary doctorate degree of the University of Silesia in Katowice. The ceremony took place on 3 December 2019 in the Kazimierz Popiołek lecture hall at the Faculty of Social Sciences (Katowice, ul. Bankowa 11). The title was awarded on the basis of a resolution of the Senate of the University of Silesia of 24 September 2019 (Resolution no. 420).

Rev. Prof. Janusz Mariański is an independent researcher, he does not write under anybody’s direction, does not beautify the reality, does not want to please anyone, does not escape from difficult or controversial subjects, on the contrary – he tries to recognise and understand them in order to provide a scientific, objective and reliable diagnosis of the current social problems and indicate the probabilistic directions of changes.
