The Prof. Józef Świder 6th International Festival of Music

The Prof. Józef Świder 6th International Festival of Music will be held from 10 to 12 December 2021. The organiser of the event is the University of Silesia in Katowice, and the partners are the County Office in Cieszyn and the City of Cieszyn.

On 10 and 11 December, in the auditorium of the Cieszyn Culture Centre “Dom Narodowy”, auditions for the prof. Józef Świder International Choir Competition will take place. 16 ensembles represented by Polish and foreign choirs, including those from Indonesia, Ukraine and Latvia, will perform during the competition. The competition will select the winners of the Grand Prix of the Rector of the University of Silesia. Moreover, special awards and the Cantus statuette funded by the family of prof. Józef Świder will be awarded for the best performance of the compositions of the festival patron. The jury of the competition will include, among others prof. Izabella Zielecka-Panek, PhD, DLitt from the Institute of Music of the Faculty of Arts and Educational Science of the University of Silesia.

On Saturday, 11 December at 6.30 p.m. in the Church of Jesus in Cieszyn, a gala concert will be performed by the participants of the competition. The conductors will be Maria Zuber, PhD, and Anna Kołowska, PhD from the Faculty of Arts and Educational Science of the University of Silesia. On Sunday, 12 December at 5 p.m. in turn, in the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Rogów, a concert of the “Angelus Cantat” Choir from Głubczyce will be organised.

The Prof. Józef Świder 6th International Festival of Music was established to commemorate the composer and the long-term director of the Institute of Music of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Silesia (currently the Institute of Music of the Faculty of Arts and Educational Science). The aim of the event is to cultivate choral traditions, exchange artistic experiences, as well as promote the compositional work of prof. Józef Świder and composers associated with Cieszyn Silesia.
