The event ‘Science is a Woman’ is an initiative on the occasion of Women’s Day carried out by women in science for all women from the region. The event will take place on 9 March 2024 at 10 a.m. at Kato Science Corner as part of the celebration of the European City of Science Katowice 2024.

The programme includes a debate with prominent scientists from the Silesian voivodeship. It will address the contemporary perception of success, and challenges that women face while implementing their ambitious projects.

The programme also includes lectures and presentations by women for other women. Scientists associated with Silesian universities will discuss the issues they deal with on a daily basis which may interest the participants. They will discuss healthy eating, women’s mental health and a sustainable approach to fashion.

The debate will be attended by the rector of the University of Economics in Katowice, Prof. Eng. Celina Olszak; director of the Centre for the Popularisation of Science of the Silesian University of Technology, Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska, PhD, Assoc. Prof., and Anna Malinowska, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof. from the University of Silesia

The debate will last an hour, and then the event participants will listen to three presentations (‘Diet like a woman’, ‘Femininity is still a taboo’ and ‘Can fashion be eco-friendly?’) prepared by scientists associated with the ECSK consortium universities.

The meeting will be led by Katarzyna Siwczyk – a journalist from the Promotion and Communication Centre of the Silesian University of Technology, a PhD student of the University of Silesia Doctoral School.

The event is held as part of the City-Region-Academia stream under the European City of Science Katowice 2024.
