From 30 November to 20 December 2023, you can participate in online meetings on the Zoom platform with representatives of indigenous cultures from the Northwest Coast of Canada.

A lecture “Revival of Haida Culture: Canoe Journeys and Haida Heritage Sites” by Andy Wilson will be held on 13 December 2023 on the Zoom platform.

The lecture focuses on the issue of the revival of Haida culture, which is examined in the context of the processes of decolonisation and indigenisation taking place over the past forty years in Canada. Andy Wilson demonstrates the effects of cultural resurgence discussing the revival of the idea of ocean canoe journeys, and the role and significance of the traditional cedar ocean-going canoes themselves, which are an integral part of Haida culture. He explores the topic on the basis of his three epic canoe journeys: 1987 – Vancouver – Skidegate; 1989 – Masset – Hydaburg, Alaska; and 1989 – Rouen, Normandy – Paris, France.
