Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, Rector of the University of Silesia has the pleasure to invite you to the concert entitled ‘The World of Kilar – inspirations, sources’ taking place on 16 June 2023 at 6 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice to celebrate the 55 years of the existence of the University of Silesia.
The concert will feature performances of new interpretations of Wojciech Kilar’s works and modern pieces on the junction of classical music and jazz inspired by his artistic output. The performers will include artists from the Institute of Music of the University of Silesia and invited guests. References to the sources will be illustrated by a student ensemble from the Institute of Music of the University of Silesia.
In the first part of the celebration, the distinctions of the USil Senate will be awarded. The ‘Pro Scientia et Arte’ awards will go to Prof. Jarosław Polański, representing exact and natural sciences, and Prof. Jerzy Łukaszewicz, representing humanities, social sciences, theological sciences, and arts. Prof. Łukaszewicz will deliver a lecture entitled ‘A few remarks on the artistic truth’.
The official part of the concert will be hosted by the students of the University of Silesia and its artistic part by Robert Talarczyk, Director of the Silesian Theatre in Katowice.
The event programme includes:
- Karpatian folk music by a student ensemble from the Institute of Music of the University of Silesia.
- Wojciech Kilar’s Orawa in a version for string quartet
- Wojciech Kilar’s famous film music themes
- music inspired by the works of Wojciech Kilar
