Prof. Jacek Jania Awarded with Crystal Laurel of Skills and Competence

Laurels of Skills and Competence awarded to prominent companies, organisations and institutions, as well as outstanding representatives of the world of science, business, culture and politics were presented during the official gala, which took place on 22 February 2020 in Zabrze.

One of the prizewinners was Prof. Jacek Jania from the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Silesia, who received the Crystal Laurel of Skills and Competence. Prof. Jacek Jania is a world-class explorer of glaciers and polar region environment, renowned geomorphologist, and specialist in remote sensing. He is the Head of the Centre for Polar Studies at the University of Silesia in Katowice.

The prize award ceremony was attended by Prof. Andrzej Kowalczyk (Rector of the University of Silesia), Prof. Tomasz Pietrzykowski (Vice-Rector for Domestic and International Cooperation) and members of the award committee of Laurels of Skills and Competence: Prof. Wiesław Banyś (Rector of the University of Silesia in 2008–2016) and Prof. Janusz Janeczek (Rector of the University of Silesia in 2002–2008).

This year’s gala opened the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Katowice.
