Cybersecurity announcement

22.02.2023 - 11:28 update 23.02.2023 - 09:00
Editors: AJS

Ladies and Gentlemen,
currently, the third level cybersecurity alert – Charlie level – is in force on the territory of Poland. This level is introduced in the case of an event confirming the probable target of a terrorist attack in cyberspace or obtaining credible information about a planned event.

Last night there was an attempt (repulsed by IT services) to attack our networks. A certain app was used for this, not necessarily related to NATO territory. Therefore, actions have been taken to block the incident, as a result of which some members of our academic community currently do not have access to their e-mail.

Let’s be careful and safe together, also cybernetically. Incidents and attacks will occur, and we expect them to increase in the near future, but together we are able to defend ourselves or at least minimise the risk.

Cybernetic regards,
Plenipotentiary of the Rector for Digitisation of the University of Silesia
Dariusz Szostek, PhD, DLitt, Associate Professor

Announcement of the Department of Network Administration and Services

Department of Network Administration and Services (DASiUS) of the University of Silesia informs that the myMail app is considered unsafe by us. There was an incident that indicates that this app was the vector of the breach. Currently, the intermediary servers for receiving mail have been blocked. It is not possible to connect to this service from the academic network.
The email accounts of users who used the myMail app have been blocked. In order to regain access, please contact DASiUS.
We recommend users who have ever used this app to remove it immediately and then change their university email passwords. If you use the same password (or variants of it) to sign in to other services, change your passwords everywhere.
