Announcement of the Rector of the University of Silesia due to the Situation Caused by Coronavirus

Announcement
of the Rector of the University of Silesia in Katowice

With reference to the announcement of 26 February 2020, related to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), I would like to kindly inform you that it is recommended for the employees, students and doctoral students who have recently returned from China, South Korea, Italy (in particular from the following regions: Lombardy, Veneto, Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna), Iran, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Taiwan, as well as any other countries that will be listed in announcements of Chief Sanitary Inspectorate https://gis.gov.pl/kategoria/aktualnosci/, to restrict their educational and professional activities from the moment of their return to Poland by applying the operational procedure decribed on that any decisions in this regard shall be taken by the heads of doctoral studies.

I. Employees

  1. The academics who have scheduled classes for the period of 14 days from their arrival in Poland can postpone these classes to a later date in agreement with their immediate superior. They are temporarily exempt from their organisational and academic duties at the University.
    If an academic wants to postpone their classes to a later date and be exempt from performing their organisational and academic duties at the University, they shall immediately notify their immediate superior about return from the above-listed countries by e-mail sent from the official e-mail address, informing about their stay in the above-listed countries and date of return to Poland.
  1. In the case of non-academic staff, task-oriented work schedule will be applied in the period of 14 days from the arrival in Poland. Time required to carry out a task and the type of tasks in a specific position will be determined by the immediate superior in agreement with the employee, taking into consideration the regular working time. Decisions about applying the task-oriented work schedule are taken by the immediate superior by consent of the Rector, relevant Vice-Rector or Chancellor.
    Non-academic staff shall immediately notify the immediate superior about the return from the above-listed countries by e-mail sent from the official e-mail address, informing about their stay in the particular country and date of return. The immediate superior shall determine tasks for this period in agreement with the employee and request the Rector, relevant Vice-Rector or Chancellor for applying the task-oriented work schedule by e-mail through the Department of Personal and Social Affairs. The employee and their immediate superior will be notified about applying the task-oriented work schedule by e-mail.

II. Students

Absence of students in classes scheduled for 14 calendar days from their return to Poland shall be excused. Any decisions in this case will be taken individually by the Deputy Deans for Education or their authorised representatives, who will also determine the course of classes.

Students shall immediately notify the Deputy Deans for Education or their authorised representatives through the relevant Dean’s Offices about the return from the above-listed countries by e-mail, informing about their stay in the particular country and date of return.

III. Doctoral students

The same rules as for academics shall apply for doctoral students in doctoral schools, with the exception that any decisions in this regard shall be taken by deans of doctoral schools.

The same rules as for doctoral students shall apply for doctoral students at doctoral degree studies, with the exception that any decisions in this regard shall be taken by the heads of doctoral studies.
