From June 12 to 16, 2023, the Summer School of Aquamatics took place. Students from various programs within the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Silesia in Katowice and natural science programs at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas gathered to explore the methodologies used in the research and management of water reservoirs. The activities were conducted at Lake Goczałkowickie and in the Upper Silesian Anthropogenic Lakes region.
Over these five days, participants had the opportunity to learn about water quality testing methods, flow measurement techniques, bottom and DNA analysis, and flood management practices. They also explored the differences between anthropogenic and post-glacial lake districts and identified the aquatic and aerial inhabitants of these waters. All activities were conducted hands-on, directly and in real-life settings.
We hope that the Summer School of Aquamatics will have future editions, benefiting successive cohorts of students from the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Silesia.
