On 1 July 2023, the next edition of the summer courses of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, organised by the School of Polish Language and Culture of the University of Silesia in Katowice, started. Classes are held online as part of the Summer School of Polish Language, Literature and Culture and a course for foreign language teachers from abroad.
About 200 people from all over the world participate in all courses (including Argentina, Austria, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Georgia, Indonesia, Jordan, Madagascar, Morocco, Ukraine, USA). For 3 weeks, participants take part in everyday classes, also on weekends, learning Polish at all levels. They listen to interesting lectures, participate in virtual games and activities, music, culinary and language workshops, as well as meetings with people of art and science. All persons also have access to interesting didactic materials developed especially for the needs of the courses and to many asynchronous lectures. Other planned activities include: virtual trips to many important places in Poland, integration meetings with students of the University of Silesia as well as talks and presentations on interesting initiatives of the University of Silesia. Moreover, the programme of the course for language teachers includes classes to improve the Polish language skills, numerous class observations, internships, seminars and methodological workshops, as well as a rich cultural programme.
In order to keep up with the tradition, on 15 July, the international spelling competition ‘Sprawdzian z polskiego’ [Polish Test] will take place, followed by the annual ‘Spotkanie Kultur i Tradycji’ [Meeting of Cultures and Traditions], during which students will present interesting facts from their cities and regions.
