The Academy of Popular Science Competencies took place on 8 June in Katowice. It is a series of training courses, workshops and meetings aimed at science communicators and organisers of popular science events. Its aim is to improve qualifications and develop practical skills in the field of scientific communication, management of science communication projects and building relationships with various audience groups.

This was the 2nd edition of this event; the 1st took place on 7 December 2025, as part of the 1st POP Science Congress.

The participants of the 2nd edition took part in two workshops, developing practical skills in public speaking and adapting their message to different audiences.

One was led by Marta Jasek, MA – speech therapist, voice rehabilitator, voice teacher and lecturer at the University of Silesia in Katowice; the workshop was devoted to conscious work with the voice and body during public speaking.

The other was led by Kat Philips, PhD, the University of Warwick – a maths communicator also known for her online activities under the name KatDoesMaths. During the workshops, participants worked on adapting scientific messages to the needs of different audiences, from schoolchildren to experts.
