Researchers of the University of Silesia in Katowice participated in an international discussion on the security of public institutions. Organised under the theme ‘Security of Public Institutions in the International Context’, the meeting of the Regional Weimar Triangle experts took place on 13 October at the Silesian Stadium’s Conference Centre.

The event’s main goal was to foster the international exchange of experience and strengthen the regional collaboration between representatives of the Silesian Voivodeship, North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, the Hauts-de-France region in France and partners from Ukraine. During the meeting, the experts discussed the pressing contemporary challenges, including counteracting disinformation in the era of digital manipulations, applying nuclear physics to monitor Europe’s radiological security, using modern materials in science and engineering to protect the people, and addressing the challenges related to cybersecurity in the era of artificial intelligence.

The academic community of the University of Silesia has played a key role in the conference. All of the debates and individual panel discussions were moderated by Rafał Prabucki, PhD, Eng., USil Faculty of Law and Administration. Our researchers initiated topics for three out of four panel discussions, engaging in debates with experts from partner countries of the Regional Weimar Triangle. The panel dedicated to disinformation featured Prof. Miron Lakomy (Faculty of Social Sciences), the session dedicated to nuclear physics featured Beata Kozłowska, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof. (Faculty of Science and Technology), and the debate dedicated to materials science and engineering featured Magdalena Jabłońska, PhD, DSc Eng., Assoc. Prof. (Faculty of Science and Technology). The contribution of the University of Silesia in such a high-profile meeting shows the University’s strong standing in international scientific dialogue on public security.
