The journal „PLOS Biology” has published an article which presents a list of over 150,000 researchers from around the world who have the biggest impact on the development of science.  The list has been prepared by: John P. A. Ioannidis, Kevin W. Boyack and Jeroen Baas based on selected bibliometric indices and data from Scopus database.

The authors used the composite citation index which they developed themselves, including the following data: number of quotations, Hirsch index (h-index), as well as the role of the publication author among co-authors. Due to different quotation customs, the most frequently quoted scientists in particular thematic categories were also taken into consideration in the specific disciplines.
