On 13 July, at the University of Silesia, a cooperation agreement between the University of Silesia and Zaporizhzhia National University (Ukraine) was signed. During a meeting with Prof. Tomasz Pietrzykowski, Vice-Rector for International and Domestic Cooperation of the University of Silesia, Prof. Olena Tupakhina, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Projects of Zaporizhzhia National University, highlighted the similarities between the institutions—both of which are classical universities operating within an environment and in partnership with specialist higher education units. The industrial heritage of Katowice and Zaporizhzhia was also highlighted as a significant research context and, therefore, a space for potential collaboration. Prof. Tupakhina described the significant challenge of continuing the university’s work during the war. She also emphasised the importance of strengthening international relations and engaging in international research projects for her university. Zaporizhzhia National University (ZNU) is one of the largest and most prestigious public universities in southeastern Ukraine. The university provides education and research across a broad spectrum of disciplines—from the humanities and social sciences to the exact sciences, economics, natural sciences, and engineering—and actively develops international cooperation with academic partners in Europe and worldwide.
The University of Silesia’s coordinator of this cooperation is Prof. Yuliana Palagnyuk from the Institute of Journalism and Media Communication of the University of Silesia.
