Signing the trilateral agreement with the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology

Usage of experience as well as the scientific and educational potential of the University of Silesia in Katowice, its special purpose company SPIN-US Ltd., and resources, engineering and content-related potential of the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology in Gliwice is the main goal of the cooperation, which was commenced by signing the cooperation agreement on 26 July 2021.

The detailed scope of cooperation between the units includes:

  • cooperation regarding research and development works on materials science, including nanomaterials, their implementation in engineering, power, automotive, and aviation industry, environmental protection, medical science as well as works on the aspects of electromagnetic compatibility and physics of fluid;
  • transfer of technologies, implementation and commercialisation of the results of research projects and scientific research;
  • cooperation in sharing infrastructural resources, especially science equipment in order to carry out joint projects;
  • support of project initiatives and the establishment of interdisciplinary research groups.

On behalf of the University of Silesia in Katowice, the agreement has been signed by Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, the Rector of the University of Silesia. The special purpose company SPIN-US Ltd. was represented by: Katarzyna Papież-Pawełczak, the Chair of the Board; Wojciech Kiljańczyk, a member of the Board. The signee from the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology was Dariusz Prostański, PhD, DSc Eng., Associate Professor of the ITG KOMAG.

The scope of ITG KOMAG’s activity

The mission of the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology includes the creation and commercialisation of innovative solutions in mechanical and mechatronic systems, environmental protection, prevention of work hazards, workplace health and safety. The scope of the Institute’s activity includes research and scientific works aimed at improving the techniques and technologies of exploitation, transport, and processing of mineral resources. The projects concern antropotechnic systems regarding their reliability, safety, and work comfort. Within the framework of the realised projects, concepts and specifications of innovative solutions in machines and devices are developed. The realisation of model, bench, and operational research contributes to increasing the durability and reliability of machines, as well as improving the safety and comfort of work, which increases the efficiency of industrial processes.

An important role in the scope of the Institute’s activities is specialistic research services carried out in accredited laboratories, including in the field of research on mechanics and power hydraulics, environmental research, mining excavation safety, as well as materials science and engineering. KOMAG certifies machines and devices in the field of the ATEX directive on explosion-proof equipment, the machinery directive on essential requirements for machines, the directive on electrical equipment intended for use within certain voltage limits, and the directive on essential requirements for toys.
