Professor Przemysław Marciniak from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Silesia in Katowice has been awarded a prestigious fellowship from the Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies at Princeton University.

During his stay at Princeton, Professor Marciniak will work together with Lorenzo Ciolfi, PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid on a book devoted to literary representations of ectoparasites in medieval and Renaissance literature.

The Seeger Center is the only academic institution in the world that supports research on Greek culture from antiquity to the modern era. The “visiting fellowships” have been awarded for several decades. Professor Marciniak is, to date, the only Polish scholar among the recipients.

Professor Przemysław Marciniak – professor of humanities and a Byzantinist – has been affiliated with the University of Silesia since his studies in classical philology. His academic interests include Byzantine literature (particularly from the 12th century), the reception of Byzantium, humour, and studies on (Byzantine) animals. He has been a fellow at Harvard University (Dumbarton Oaks Research Library), Princeton University, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, DAAD, and the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. He was a visiting professor in Uppsala (2010, 2012–2013), Paris (2016), Munich (2018), and Freiburg im Breisgau (2018–2019). In 2018, he was awarded the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
