Prof. Tadeusz Sławek with Kazimierz Wyka Award

Prof. Tadeusz Sławek – a poet, essayist, translator and literary scholar associated with the USil Faculty of Humanities, Rector of the University of Silesia in 1996–2002 won the prestigious Kazimierz Wyka Award by the Marshall of the Małopolska Region and Mayor of the City of Kraków. The award gala took place on 17 March 2023.

The award has been given since 1980 for extraordinary achievements in essays and literary and art criticism. The award has been established to honour Prof. Kazimierz Wyka – a great historian, literary critic, essayist, professor of the Jagiellonian University, and the founder of the Kraków seminar on literary criticism.

Kazimierz Wyka Award is respected and of great renown among creators and researchers of literature and art. So far, the list of winners includes such people as Jan Błoński, Zbigniew Herbert, Maria Janion or Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, the Rector of the University of Silesia.

Prof. Tadeusz Sławek is an outstanding authority in the theory and history of literature, comparative literature, as well as literature, culture and philosophy. He delivered guest lectures at renowned universities in Great Britain and the USA. He is a member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Polish Writers’ Union; he is also a regular publisher in Tygodnik Powszechny weekly.
