The awarded project was carried out from September 2022 by the University of Silesia and the Metropolis GZM with the support of the City of Katowice and universities of the Academic Consortium. One of its intentions was to search for sustainable urban solutions that in the future will contribute to the creation of a Green Science Zone with more nature and fewer cars. This action is one of the most important tasks that Katowice universities set for themselves before 2024, when the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship will be the European City of Science.

The award was received by representatives of the Metropolis GZM, the University of Silesia and the Katowice City Hall. During his speech, Kazimierz Karolczak, Chair of the Metropolis GZM management board, drew attention to the team nature of the project and the synergy that has developed between the institutions responsible for the project: “We all want to live in better cities. Next year, Katowice will be the European City of Science, it will be the time to introduce further solutions in sustainable urban mobility”.

“This project is, above all, a great success in terms of changing the way of thinking about how to work on modifications of public space. The process of building awareness of what bringing back Rawa to the residents of academic Katowice will give us began with the organisation of the 5th edition of the Silesian Science Festival. This award is another proof that there is potential in the initiative we have taken to change Rawa”, said Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, Rector of the University of Silesia.
