Together with the 6th edition of the Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE, the publication ‘Crossing Rawa. An Interview with the River Katowice’ had its premiere. A unique collection of poetry, prose and photography is available in both print and electronic versions.
The river/non-river flowing through Ruda Śląska, Świętochłowice, Chorzów and Katowice inspires not only urban planners, but also artists – designers, photographers, performers, writers and poets. Everyone who visited the ‘Temat: Rzeka’ [‘Topic: River’] exhibition in the former seat of the Silesian Museum in Katowice could see it for themselves. The project, which is the result of interdisciplinary classes conducted by the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, allowed to experience Rawa through photos, graphics, artistic installations, as well as poetry and prose. Students of Creative Writing programme at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia were responsible for the last two elements. The content prepared by them – most often very personal – showed Rawa as an inseparable element of our everyday life in Katowice – past, present and future. Today we present their works collected as part of the publication ‘Crossing Rawa. An Interview with the River Katowice’, which was created under the watchful eye of Grzegorz Olszański, PhD, DLitt, Associate Professor. Literary forms are accompanied by photographs by Barbara Sielska and Anna Kubska from the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, and the typesetting was done by Martyna Sobolewska, a graduate of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Silesia in Cieszyn (currently the Faculty of Arts and Educational Science of the University of Silesia).
The publication in printed form is available in the Rector’s Office (ul. Bankowa 12, room 1.16). You can also download the electronic version on the ISSUU platform.
