During the 7th Intelligent Development Forum 2022, held on 6-7 June 2022 in Uniejów, the award for the Silesian Water Centre of the University of Silesia in Katowice was presented. The distinction was awarded in the category of Eco-innovation for outstanding research, development, and popularisation activities related to water management and environmental protection, based on innovative research methods.
The centre, the director of which is Andrzej Woźnica, PhD, DSc, Associate Professor from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, conducts research for the protection of the aquatic environment. The employees cooperate with specialists from around the world, assess the quality of water, perform bathymetric measurements of water reservoirs and monitor them, as well as develop programmes for the rehabilitation of contaminated areas.
