The Silesian Interdisciplinary Centre for Chemistry is a strategic investment of the University of Silesia, which, thanks to its modern infrastructure, will ensure the implementation of the idea of open and interdisciplinary science. The designed spaces not only meet the needs of education, research, collaboration with industry, and the functioning of the academic community, but also invite the residents of Katowice and the entire metropolitan area to new spaces to experience science together.
The facility will include teaching and demonstration spaces within the Network Science Centre, demonstration laboratories, teaching rooms, specialist workshops, modern sports facilities, as well as a café and a green garden open to the academic community and residents.
The Silesian Interdisciplinary Centre for Chemistry was designed to support science and modern teaching, taking into account primarily experimentation, interdisciplinary research and providing appropriate working conditions for research teams from various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields.
The facility will house 21 specialist laboratories:
- Laboratory of Drug Design and Nanopharmacology
- Laboratory of Polymers and Functional Materials for Modern Technologies
- Laboratory of Materials for Photonics and Optoelectronics
- Laboratory of High-pressure and High-temperature Working Fluid Testing
- Laboratory of Analytical Spectroscopic Techniques
- Laboratory for Modelling Multidimensional Data and Complex Instrumental Signals and for Experiment Planning
- Laboratory of Quantum and Computational Chemistry
- Laboratory of Bioorganics
- Laboratory for Design and Synthesis of New Biologically Active Compounds
- Laboratory of Chromatographic Research
- Laboratory of Materials Synthesis for Energy Applications
- Laboratory for Research on the Physicochemical Properties of Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage
- Laboratory of Spectroscopy and Luminescent Materials (renewable energy sources, major modules in the chemistry field related to modern materials)
- Laboratory of Spectroscopic Pharmaceutical and Food Analyses (Food Chemistry)
- Laboratory for Spectroscopic Research of Soft Matter and Nanomaterials (chemistry, in particular training modules related to modern materials)
- Laboratory for the Synthesis and Characterisation of Modern Organic Materials
