RESEARCH EXCELLENCE INITIATIVE

FREEDOM OF RESEARCH – SCIENCE FOR THE FUTURE

„Freedom of research – science for the future” series consists of articles, interviews and short videos presenting research conducted by winners of the call for proposals

Sławomir Sułowicz, PhD | microbiologist

Nanomaterials are increasingly more present in our daily lives. Their interesting properties, including the antibacterial and antifungal activities, make us want to use them in medicine, cosmetic industry and agriculture. However, the widespread use of nanomaterials leads to accumulation of nanoparticles in the natural environment, which in turn may have a negative impact on certain organisms. These processes are the object of scientific interest for Sławomir Sułowicz, PhD, from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Silesia, winner of “Freedom of research” call for proposals, who examines, among other things, the toxicity of zinc oxide nanoparticles in relation to soil microorganisms.
