The University of Silesia is working on a project of new model of studies which is going to cover all programmes at the 1st cycle studies and long-cycle studies. The goal is to reshape them fundamentally. Members of the academic community of the University of Silesia in Katowice can track progress of this undertaking and participate in its implementation.

The conceptual works are carried out by a team under the patronage of the Rector of the University of Silesia, Prof. Ryszard Koziołek. The project of the new model of studies assumes that the bachelor’s and engineer’s studies and part of the long-cycle master’s studies will consist of four parts:
- degree programme modules that will be revised based on the current competences of candidates for studies, their educational expectations and knowledge of the labour market,
- basic modules from the point of view of a specific field of study or faculty, necessary in the process of specialist education students of many faculties,
- modules supporting specialised education, including teacher education,
- modules that students will be able to choose themselves.
The University of Silesia also organises open seminars concerning the systemic foundations of the concept of new studies. Six meetings have been held so far. They were participated by: Prof. Ryszard Koziołek; Michał Krzykawski, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof; Prof. Monika Kostera; Prof. Jerzy Hausner; Prof. Przemysław Czapliński; Anna Machnikowska, PhD, DLitt, Professor of the University of Gdańsk and Prof. Pedro Russo.
