Lawyer, professor of international law at the University of Warsaw. A judge on the International Court of Justice in the Hague between 1965–1992. Chairman of the United Nations General Assembly Sixth Committee and the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy. Vice-President of the Hague Academy of International Law, a regular member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and other international academies. He received an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Algiers, Brussels, Budapest, Bucharest, Halifax, Helsinki, London, New Delhi, New York, Nice, Southampton, Sofia, Washington and others. He was awarded World Jurists’ Award by the UN for being an outstanding lawyer in the world (1975).
