Son of the Silesian soil, an outstanding man of science, a world-famous politician, educator. He received an honorary doctorate degree from the Universities of Dortmund, Seoul and Isparta (Turkey) as well as the Technical Universities of Silesia, Opole and Łódź.
Professor of technical sciences, the Prime Minister of Poland from 1997 to 2001, elected to the European Parliament in 2004, he served as President of the European Parliament between 2009 and 2012.
