Tadeusz RÓŻEWICZ

Poet, playwright, prose writer, essayist, ambassador of Polish literature, creator of new forms of artistic expression. Author of poems, dramas, literary sketches, short stories, monologues, film scripts, memoirs, commentaries and stage directions. His works were translated into over 20 languages. He was honoured with such distinctions as Armia Krajowa Cross and Polonia Restituta Grand Cross. Member of Die Bayerische der Schönen Künste. Winner of numerous awards, incl. 1st class State Prize, Magazine “Odra” prize, Jurzykowski Foundation award, Struga Poetry Evenings Golden Wreath, Austrian State Prize for European Literature, prizes of cities of: Cracow, Wroclaw, Göttingen. Member of the Upper Silesian Literary Society in Katowice, honorary citizen of Gliwice, candidate for the Nobel Prize. He received an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Wroclaw and Opole.
