University of Silesia in National High School Ranking ‘Perspektywy 2026’

The University of Silesia was ranked 9th among classical universities and 30th in the overall ranking in the National High School Ranking ‘Perspektywy 2026’. Our university achieved high rankings in key categories and advanced in the ranking positions of the degree programmes it offers.

The University of Silesia’s most significant achievements in general categories (in the classical university rankings):

  • 8th place (up from 9th) in the Internationalisation category;
  • 8th place (no change) in the Reputation category.

The University has recorded high rankings among classical universities in the categories of Innovation (4th place, down two spots compared with 2025) and Research Potential (7th place, down two spots).

Degree Programme Rankings

In this year’s ranking, the degree programmes offered by the University of Silesia were highly rated compared with all universities in Poland. The highest-ranked degree programmes offered by the University of Silesia are:

  • Geology – 4th place (no change);
  • Geography – 4th place (up from 5th);
  • Journalism and Social Communication – 5th place (up from 7th);
  • Polish Studies – 6th place (no change);
  • Foreign Languages (excluding English) and Linguistics – joint 6th place (up from 7th);
  • Physics – 6th place (up from 7th);
  • Education – joint 6th place (up from 11th);
  • Special Education – joint 7th place (up from 10th);
  • National and International Security – joint 7th place (no change).

Compared with 2025, the following courses advanced as well: 

  • Administration – up four places (to 8th place);
  • Biology – up one place (to joint 8th place);
  • English Studies – up one place (to joint 8th place);
  • Sociology – up one place (to 9th place);
  • Tourism – up one place (to joint 9th place);
  • Biomedical Engineering – up two places (to 10th place);

Other degree programmes in the top ten in Poland:

  • Cultural Studies (8th place);
  • Theology (8th place);
  • Biotechnology (9th place);
  • Environmental Protection (9th place);
  • Political Science (joint 9th place);
  • Psychology (10th place).

Ranking of Natural and Technical Sciences

The science degree programmes offered by the University of Silesia in Biology, Biotechnology, Geography, Geology and Environmental Protection have been ranked among the top ten degree programmes in the country.

It is also worth noting that the University of Silesia was 1st among classical universities in the following technical fields: Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering and Mechatronics.

Detailed results by ranking category

Research potential

The University of Silesia moved up one place to joint 14th in the overall rankings for this category. This is the result of very strong performance in key areas:

  • Academic staff with highest qualifications – moving up to 6th place in the overall rankings.
  • Rights to confer PhD degrees and post-doctoral degrees – maintaining strong 4th place among classical universities and in the overall ranking.

Academic Reputation

The University of Silesia maintained its 8th position among classical universities in the Academic Reputation category, repeating last year’s result However, we have seen a significant rise in the overall ranking among all universities – from 19th to 13th place. It was possible to improving the rating in terms of two components: Academic Reputation and International Recognition.

The leader in the patents and rights’ protection in Poland

For yet another year running, the University of Silesia has demonstrated its innovative spirit, maintaining its leading position among classical universities regarding the number of patents and industrial design rights obtained in Poland.

Internationalisation and Staff Exchange

The University of Silesia’s growing international profile is shown by its rise from 9th to 8th place in the Internationalisation category among classical universities.
