The Patent Office of the Republic of Poland (UPRP) has drawn up a report summarising the inventive activities of employees of Polish universities in 2013–2019. The University of Silesia in Katowice was ranked among 30 best domestic universities which submitted their solutions to the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland during the period indicated and obtained exclusive rights protecting the intellectual property, especially patents for inventions.

Our university was also placed in top positions of each category included in the report among the so-called ‘classical’ universities, which do not have a specific profile related to technology or natural sciences.

The University of Silesia was ranked in the 15th position in the period from 2013 to 2019, taking the 2nd place among classical universities in two areas:

  • number of applications for inventions and utility models submitted by domestic universities,
  • number of patents for inventions and protective rights for utility models granted to domestic universities.

The report also contains a summary of inventive activities of employees of Polish universities in 2019. The University of Silesia was ranked 17th among all universities and 2nd among the so-called ‘classical’ universities in terms of the number of applications. When it comes to the number of rights granted, the University of Silesia was placed in the 15th position, taking the 1st place among the so-called ‘classical’ universities.
