During the Society of Polish Town Planners (TUP) gala in Gliwice, the University of Silesia received the Special Award for the Rawa River prototype, presented as part of the 17th Competition for the Best Developed Public Space in Poland.
The reason for the jury’s recognition is particularly worth noting : we were appreciated for our approach to thinking about public space. Before implementing permanent changes, we test ideas in practice. We observe how people use new solutions, listen to their feedback, and draw conclusions.
This was the purpose of the Rawa River prototype. It allowed us to see what happens to the campus space when we open it up to the river and invite people to use it in new ways.
This is exactly how we want to develop the Green Science Zone: step by step, learning from those who will study, work, stroll, and spend time here. The TUP award confirms for us that it is worth testing how a place functions before designing its future.
The award-winning project was created by Paweł Jaworski, Aleksandra Hantkiewicz-Lejman, and Michał Zarzecki. The initiative was coordinated by Aneta Moczkowska and Ewelina Budzińska-Góra.
