The “Perspektywy” website published the results of this year’s ranking of higher education institutions. The ranking consists of four categories reflecting different roles of Polish higher education institutions, i.e. rankings of: academic higher education institutions, non-public higher education institutions, public schools of higher vocational education, and degree programmes.
All higher education institutions authorised to confer doctoral degrees and educating at least 200 full-time students were included in the ranking of academic higher education institutions. The University of Silesia took 29th place in this ranking (moving up two places), and ranked 9th in the classification by type of higher education institution – in the category of universities.
The considered criteria included:
- academic prestige,
- employment prospects after graduating,
- scientific potential,
- scientific effectiveness,
- innovation capability,
- education conditions,
- internationalisation.
The University of Silesia received a high score, among others, in scientific potential (13th place out of 50 higher education institutions) and innovation capability (16th place out of 50 higher education institutions). In terms of patents and protective rights in Poland, which were taken into account in the evaluation of the last criterion, the University of Silesia was among the country’s leaders, taking ninth place out of all higher education institutions. Moreover, in the university classification, it was ranked fourth, and first among so-called “classical universities”.
