In the final days of the academic year, the University of Silesia was visited by a representative of Kenyatta University, Prof. John Mugubi, Dean of the School of Creative Arts, Film and Media Studies.
Kenyatta University is one of the leading and largest universities in Kenya. It stands out for its dynamic development and strong commitment to innovation and research. The university consistently builds its position as a regional educational leader, supporting the country’s social and economic development.
Recently, at the initiative of Karina Banaszkiewicz-Sadowska, PhD, DSc from the Institute of Culture Studies of the University of Silesia, steps were taken to develop a formal basis for cooperation between the University of Silesia and Kenyatta University. The meeting between Prof. Mugubi and Prof. Tomasz Pietrzykowski, Vice-Rector for International and Domestic Cooperation of the University of Silesia, during the guest’s visit to Silesia provided an opportunity to discuss the details of cooperation and the prospects for developing relations with universities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
During his visit to the University of Silesia, Prof. Mugubi learned about our university’s research activities and academic programmes, with particular emphasis on units whose areas of expertise align with his own work and which could serve as potential partners for direct collaboration.
On 25 June 2026, Prof. Mugubi visited the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School, where he had the opportunity to speak with Krystyna Doktorowicz, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof., the School’s Dean, and Andrzej Cichocki, PhD, Plenipotentiary of the Dean for International Cooperation, about the possibilities of student and staff exchange between the universities, as well as the creation of joint artistic projects. The guest was very interested in the School’s workshop infrastructure and also had the opportunity to participate in a presentation of short films made by students.
Moreover, on 26 June 2026, Prof. Mugubi visited the Faculty of Arts and Educational Science in Cieszyn. During this visit, the Faculty was represented by Natalia Pawlus, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof., Deputy Dean for Development and Cooperation, and Adrian Robak, PhD, Assoc. Prof., Plenipotentiary of the Dean for International Cooperation. Potential forms of cooperation between the art faculties of both universities were discussed. The visit also provided an opportunity to tour both the University of Silesia’s Cieszyn campus and the most interesting sites of this charming city.
