The University of Silesia in Katowice achieved impressive results in the evaluation of the quality of its scientific activity for the years 2022–2025. Of the 26 disciplines assessed, 14 received an A-rated category, while the remaining 12 received a B+ category. This means that all disciplines conducted at the University of Silesia retained their authorisation to conduct research, educate PhD students, and award academic degrees.
Considering the first published results, the University of Silesia has been ranked among the top Polish classical universities, ranking 5th in terms of the share of disciplines rated in the highest A+ and A categories (just after the Jagiellonian University, the University of Warsaw, the Nicolaus Copernicus University, and the Adam Mickiewicz University). In this respect, the University of Silesia compares favourably to other universities, such as the University of Wrocław, the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, the University of Łódź, and the University of Szczecin. The results of leading academic centres also show that the University of Silesia is among the few comprehensive universities that have not received any category lower than B+.
Additionally, the University of Silesia has the second highest number of A categories in the entire ranking—14 (tied with Adam Mickiewicz University; only the Jagiellonian University has more, 15). The University of Silesia’s results are not only high but also exceptionally consistent. Its versatility is particularly noteworthy—A categories were awarded to disciplines representing almost the entire range of fields: from the humanities and social sciences, through the exact and natural sciences, to engineering and technical sciences and the arts.

Category B+ was awarded to:
- philosophy,
- history,
- computer science,
- biomedical engineering,
- linguistics,
- mathematics,
- biological sciences,
- physical sciences,
- Earth and environmental sciences,
- sociology,
- theology,
- pedagogy.
The evaluation results confirm the high quality of research conducted at the University of Silesia and the scientific potential of our research teams. This is a success of the entire University of Silesia community, not only of a single discipline or team. Fourteen A categories, while maintaining the remaining B+ levels, confirm that we are able to combine a broad research profile with the highest quality. This success stems from years of consistent work by researchers, artists, and all those who support science at the University of Silesia.
The evaluation of the quality of scientific activity is conducted by the Minister of Science and Higher Education and includes an assessment of scientific achievements, the financial impact of research, and the impact of scientific activity on society and the economy. The resulting categories are crucial for research funding and the university’s academic credentials.
