The Polish Polar Consortium (PKPol), operating within the walls of the University of Silesia in Katowice and associating 15 Polish scientific entities involved in polar research, selected Dariusz Ignatiuk, PhD, as its representative in the Team for National Polar Policy at the Council of Ministers.
The Team was established by the Prime Minister to support the coordination of Poland’s polar policy. It is currently the most important advisory body of the state in the field of Polish polar activities.
The first meeting of the Team was held on 22 March this year.
Dariusz Ignatiuk, PhD, is a glaciologist associated with the Centre for Polar Studies operating at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice. He has been conducting research mainly in the Arctic, on Spitsbergen for several years. The scientist will serve on the competition committee for the 2023 Major Science Initiatives (MSI) Fund, which is designed to provide support for the ongoing operational and maintenance needs of research facilities.
