New technologies penetrate our everyday life more and more. They are increasingly present in education, business, administration or sociology. They also constitute a growing challenge in matters related to law, society, politics and even psychology. The above issues were the subject of this year’s Cybersec Forum 2022, which took place in Katowice on 17 and 18 May. During the event, the Cyber Science study programme was also announced.
During one of the major international cybersecurity events, special attention was paid to military defense and civil infrastructure. The conference was attended, among others, by Dariusz Szostek, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof., from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia and the CYBER SCIENCE Silesian Centre for Legal Engineering, Technology and Digital Competence.
The scientist delivered a lecture on the changes in cybersecurity being prepared in the European Union. During the speech, the professor also talked about the new educational path carried out jointly by the Silesian NASK universities and institutions belonging to the CYBER SCIENCE consortium, the aim of which is to increase the digital competences of Polish society. Cybersec was also attended by Paweł Kasprowski, PhD, DSc Eng., Assoc. Prof. of the Silesian University of Technology, and Adrian Kapczyński, PhD, from the Silesian University of Technology and Maciej Groń, attorney, (NASK).
Cyber Science Studies
Postgraduate two-course Cyber Science studies will be inaugurated in October 2022. Specialists in the field of new technologies will introduce students to knowledge (legal, technological and economic) on, among others:
- cybersecurity management,
- tokenisation,
- process automation,
- artificial intelligence,
- blockchain, smart contract.
Cyber Science studies include two modules:
- Tokenisation and automation of processes in the digital economy. Legal, technical and managerial aspects;

The programme of studies will focus on interdisciplinarity. The programme of studies will focus on interdisciplinarity. The implemented material will use knowledge not only in the field of modern technologies, but also in the areas with which they clearly intertwine: law, psychology, management, sociology and others.
The Cyber Science educational path is addressed not only to people closely related to the IT and digital industry, but also lawyers, administration employees, IT implementation managers, etc. The assumptions of the centre include a general improvement of the digital competences of Polish society, especially young specialists who are just entering the labour market.
Classes taking place as part of the educational path will be conducted in a hybrid form. Therefore, listeners from all over Poland can participate in them. This means that during the two semesters of Cyber Science studies, exercises and workshops will be carried out using the modern VOD method in an online form at weekends. On the other hand, some meetings will be held in a stationary form – lecturers will conduct them at the universities included in the consortium and at the premises of other partners.
All lectures will be available to students two weeks before the conference, with the possibility of listening to them multiple times. On the basis of the final work prepared in the team, during the three-day Hackaton, participants will be awarded diplomas, and graduates of Cybersecurity Management – certificates of the Polish Information Technology Society.
More details on Cyber Science studies can be found on the centre’s website.
CYBER SCIENCE Centre
Established at the end of last year, the CYBER SCIENCE Silesian Centre for Legal Engineering, Technology and Digital Competence is a scientific and didactic consortium which – apart from the University of Silesia in Katowice – also includes: the Silesian University of Technology, University of Economics in Katowice and the Scientific and Academic Computer Network – NASK National Research Institute.
The centre is developing dynamically, establishing cooperation with other entities. On 11 May 2022, an agreement was signed with the Polish Digital Association, on the same day another agreement was finalised between the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Polish IT Society, and earlier with the Polish Bank Association and Asseco.
These institutions will support CYBER SCIENCE in the implementation and realisation of the new educational path. Each of the parties will join the undertaking, among others by supplying the staff with specialists who will share their knowledge and experience with the participants of the studies. The studies were also taken under the patronage of the National Council of Legal Advisers.
