Sustainable Development Goals of the UN

The University of Silesia supports the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the representatives of 193 member states of the United Nations during the General Assembly in 2015.

In the “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” resolution, 17 global goals and 169 objectives and tasks have been listed as areas of key importance for humanity, considering the balance between economic, social and environmental development.

Realizing its mission of social responsibility through research, teaching and artistic activities, the University of Silesia undertakes a number of initiatives and projects that support achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Employees and students associated with the University, working individually and in teams, take up topics important from the perspective of the region, country and world. They seek solutions to fight poverty, hunger and social inequalities, study life on land and underwater, and analyse the effects of climate change. The results of their research contribute to the improvement in conditions and the quality of life of others. They create modern technologies, explore the cultural heritage of the world and nations as well as the macro- and microcosm. They share knowledge, popularize science and awaken the cognitive curiosity of people of all ages. They teach critical thinking, word sensitivity, and tenacity in asking questions. Their research, teaching and artistic activities contribute to transforming the world.
