Marta Tomczok, PhD, DLitt, Associate Professor from the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia in Katowice has received the scholarship of the Marshal of Silesian Voivodeship in the category of culture for an essay and photography publication “Ostatnia tona. Upamiętnianie węgla jako dobra natury i kultury” (The last ton. Commemorating coal as a good of nature and culture).

The scholarships has been granted since 2002 for people involved in artistic work, dissemination and protection of cultural goods for the benefit of the Silesian Voivodeship. This year they were granted to 20 people. The amount of one scholarship is PLN 10,000.

Marta Tomczok, PhD, DLitt, Associate Professor – researcher of the Holocaust and its cultural references, editor-in-chief of the yearly “Narracje o  Zagładzie” (Narratives on Holocaust). He is interested in the influence of new methodologies on the study of the Holocaust and other genocides, critical reflection on aesthetics considered to be past (postmodernism), new animism and the environmental history of coal.
