On Friday, 15 July 2022 in Katowice, there will be a conference ESOF2022 Regional Site. It is an event proceeding conferring the title of the European City of Science 2024 by the capital of Silesian Voivodeship and accompanying the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) 2022 organised by Leiden, the European City of Science 2022 on 13-16 July.

The registration is free of charge, you can make it by 14 July via the form.

Below you can find detailed information on the organisation of the event.

Where does the event take place?

ESOF 2022 Regional Site Katowice takes place in the International Congress Centre in Katowice. You may enter the conference from Plac Sławika i Antalla (in the vicinity of the Spodek Arena, KTW building and Katowice Rondo [Katowice Roundabout]). The exact location of the conference along with the information on how to get there and the car park can be found on the Centre’s website.

The event starts at 8 a.m. The registration point will be open at 7 a.m., where you can collect the welcoming package along with the identification. The registration point and information point are located in the lower lobby at the entrance to the Centre.

How can I get the identification?

All the registered participants of the conference have received or will receive an e-mail with a PDF file with the guest’s full name and a barcode. Apart from that, the file also contains a participant’s number – these are four numbers next to the letters “NRK”.

While visiting the reception point in the International Congress Centre, please present the printout with your barcode. A registered participant without their barcode may use their participant’s number or identify themselves with their full name. In the case of using the number or identifying with one’s full name, the participant will be asked to present their ID card for identification purposes.

Where can I find the event’s programme?

You can download the PDF file with the schedule of the event. The programme is also available on the ESOF website – with the use of a search engine you may find a certain panel and session.

How can I get there?

People arriving in Katowice by car can use public car parks in the city centre. In the vicinity of the International Congress Centre, there is a car park next to the buildings of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR) and the Silesian Museum. Check the details on how to get to the car park.

We also encourage you to travel via interchange stations in Katowice. More details on the City of Katowice website. (in Polish with maps)

The nearest tram stop to the International Congress Centre is named Katowice Rondo. Detailed information on bus and tram timetables can be found at https://rj.metropoliaztm.pl/?lang=en

How can I watch the event online?

A part of the events within the ESOF 2022 in Katowice and Leiden will be broadcast online. More details about the platforms with shared materials in separate news.

Can I ask questions during the conference?

Yes. Participants present on-site in the International Congress Centre may ask questions directly with the use of microphones.

On-site and online participants may also ask questions via chat, which is available within the Coffee platform.

During the event, two sessions will be broadcast live from Leiden to Katowice in Ballroom C. People who would like to ask questions may do so via the Slido platform (embedded in the Coffee system).

The Slido platform is available in the menu on the left. If you want to ask questions to the sessions taking place in Leiden, click the “Slido” button and log in. The next step is to choose whether you want to participate in Questions&Answers sessions or Polls.

Asking questions via the Slido system does not guarantee that a question will be asked by a moderator in Leiden.

Can participants register during the event?

Registration lasts until 14 July but people who will appear in the International Congress Centre in Katowice and would like to register on the spot may also do so. In that order, you should go to the information point at the reception point.
