Prof. Joseph Halevi Horowitz Weiler is a remarkable American lawyer, expert in the constitutional, international and European Union law fields. He has participated in works of the team preparing the European Parliament’s Declaration of Human Rights and Freedoms, as well as WTO and NAFTA arbitral panels.
In 2013-2016, Prof. Weiler was the President of the European University Institute in Florence. Currently, he is a lecturer at the New York University School of Law and the Centre for European Studies at Harvard University. He is also an honorary doctorate degree of law and political sciences awardee at major European and American universities.
Additionally, Prof. Weiler is an executive editor of various international law magazines, such as the European Journal of International Law (EJIL) and the International Journal of Constitutional Law (ICON).
Maestro’s lecture: Does the Court of Justice of the European Union Suffer from Christophobia, Judeophobia and Islamophobia? (online)
The lecture in the form of a webinar takes place on 30 May 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event is organised within the Lectio Magistralis Internationalis project realised at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Silesia.
After the meeting, there will be a discussion panel during which more experts will debate: Prof. Tomasz Pietrzykowski, the Vice-Rector of the University of Silesia, Rev. Prof. Franciszek Longchamps de Bérier from the Jagiellonian University; Agata Skowron-Nalborczyk, PhD, DLitt; Assoc. Prof. of the University of Warsaw. During the second part of the seminary, there will be a discussion of the event’s participants with Prof. Weiler. Anyone interested in participating can complete the registration form by 26 May 2022 through the application form. The meeting will be translated simultaneously.

A debate with guest Prof. Weiler and Maciej Szpunar, PhD, Assoc. Prof. of the University of Silesia takes place at the Faculty of Law and Administration (ul. Bankowa 11) on 31 May 2022 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On 1 June 2022, Prof. Weiler is hosting two seminaries at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia.
The seminar “How to Write and Supervise a Doctoral Thesis in Law” takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. To participate in the seminar, it is necessary to register through the application form.
Another seminar ”Advice to Young Academics: A Strategy for a Successful Career (and a Satisfying Life) in the Age of Quantitative Indicators” takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Anyone interested in participating is asked to fill in the application form.
