Ceremony of conferring the honorary doctorate degree to Ananda Devi Anenden

The ceremony of conferring the honorary doctorate degree to Ananda Devi Anenden begins on Wednesday, 22 June 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Andrzej Pawlikowski Lecture Hall at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia (Katowice, ul. Uniwersytecka 4). The title of honorary doctor was awarded by resolution of the Senate of the University of Silesia of 28 January 2020.

The supervisor in the process of conferring the honorary doctorate degree is Prof. Krzysztof Jarosz, and the author’s achievements will be reviewed by Prof. Julia Waters, Prof. Rajcoomaree Kumari Issur, and Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, Rector of the University of Silesia.

Ananda Devi Anenden

One of the most outstanding contemporary French writers, author of several novels, collections of short stories and poetry. Her works, emerging from Creole and Indian originated Mauritius are a synthesis of Eastern and Western culture that stands up for the oppressed and excluded. Her works, translated into many languages, are the subject of many scientific research projects and are well known in many countries, and for five years also in Poland.

She was honoured with the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres order by the French government and is a laureate of nine literary awards.

Scientific seminar – 9 June 2022

A seminar dedicated to the works of the Mauritian author will be held on Thursday, 9 June at 3.00 p.m. The meeting titled “La journée d’études: Autour de l’œuvre d’Ananda Devi” will be held on MS Teams (it will be also broadcast on the YouTube channel of the University of Silesia). The seminar, at which recognised researchers from all over the world will deliver papers, will be held in French.

 

Discussion panel – 14 June 2022

The Municipal Public Library in Sosnowiec along with the University of Silesia in Katowice is inviting you to take part in a discussion panel organised on the occasion of conferring the honorary doctorate degree to the Mauritian author Ananda Devi. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, 14 June 2022, at 6 p.m. at Zagłębiowska Mediateka’s lecture hall, ul. Kościelna 11 in Sosnowiec. The entrance is free. Meet the author session – 21 June 2022

Meet the author session with Ananda Devi Anenden, preceding the ceremony of conferring the honorary doctorate degree to the writer, begins on 21 June 2022 at 5 p.m. at the Centre for Scientific Information and Academic Library (CINiBA). The meeting will be hosted by Prof. Krzysztof Jarosz.

The meeting will be held in French. Polish interpretation will be provided. Participants will have a possibility to get to know the bibliography of the author as well as listen to the discussion and ask questions. Free entrance.
