Prof. Krzysztof Ślosarek delivers his lecture on the revolutionary technological advance in radiotherapy on 9 January 2023 at 6 p.m. The event takes place in the building of the University of Silesia in Katowice at ul. Bankowa 14 (W. Pańko Lecture Hall).

The topic of the meeting will be the latest revolutionary technique in radiotherapy called FLASH-RT. It involves the delivery of ultra-high dose rate radiation (over100 Gy/s) in a short time, which destroys cancer cells and leaves healthy cells practically unchanged. This promising tool, being introduced into clinical practice, will require medical physicists to develop new plans for radiotherapy and verify irradiation, taking into account radiobiological ‘effects.’

Prof. Krzysztof Ślosarek is the Head of the Radiotherapy Planning Department at Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute Of Oncology, Gliwice Branch.

The lecture takes place within the series of inter-faculty lectures in natural sciences, to which the most outstanding scientists are invited and present the results of research that may impact other disciplines of science.
