‘Gaming Katowice’ is an unusual event addressed to fans of computer games and gaming. This year’s edition was organised by the City of Katowice, and researchers and enthusiasts from the Game Studies Research Centre of the University of Silesia accepted the invitation to co-create it. The meeting programme included lectures presenting computer games from various perspectives. The following issues were discussed: cultural, educational and legal angles of the topic, as well as issues related to the history of music and its role in games or the use of AI in them.

The event took place on 6 December 2023 at the headquarters of the Rawa.Ink Municipal Business Incubator. The meeting agenda included:

  • discussion panel about games in culture, gaming culture and gaming education– Michał Kłosiński (University of Silesia), Dominik Koziarski (Little Bit Academy), Agnieszka Kliś-Brodowska (University of Silesia) and Aldona Rosner (Silesian University of Technology);
  • lecture ‘A few words about the history and importance of music in games’ – Tomasz Bonikowski (University of Silesia);
  • lecture ‘AI in gamedev – legal issues’ – attorney Maciej Niezgoda (University of Silesia);
  • networking.

Participants of ‘Gaming Katowice’ could also take advantage of the ‘Old school game zone’ where they could play computer games from years ago.
