The Professor Józef Pieter Award was established in October 2022 on the initiative of the Rector of the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Professor Józef Pieter Foundation in cooperation with Metropolis GZM. The candidate registration process lasted until 31 March and was followed by a selection process, which resulted in 5 nominees. One of them will become the Award winner and will receive a financial prize of PLN 20,000. The winner’s name will be announced during the official award ceremony on 14 October.

The Professor Józef Pieter Award is awarded annually to an outstanding teacher who works in a primary or secondary school in the Silesian Voivodeship. It is presented to individuals whose work demonstrates the fundamental importance of education for the development of children and young people; who effectively share their love of knowledge, combine the qualities and skills of outstanding subject teachers and committed educators; are open-minded, tolerant and fair. Thus presenting attitudes and values close to the patron of the award, Professor Józef Pieter.

The Professor Józef Pieter Award is intended to serve as an incentive to appreciate teachers. The aim is for the Prof. Józef Pieter Award Award to involve not only the school community but also local communities familiar with the local teaching staff.

The entirely open form of candidate submission allows everyone to recommend the people who, in their opinion, have a significant impact on the development and success of their pupils – in education and their private lives.
