In the new 2026/2027 academic year, the University of Silesia will welcome nearly 8,000 new students. By 30 September, 7,980 people were admitted to studies. Admissions and enrolment are still ongoing, so this figure may still increase. Each of these individuals brings their own story and their own vision of what studying and their future will entail. For some, university is the next step in realising a long-held plan; others are only just discovering what interests them and the direction in which they would like to develop. There are also those who are returning to education, changing career paths or seeking a better understanding of the field to which they have already dedicated their lives. The university is a place where these different paths can converge.

Of the 7,980 people enrolled so far, 6,889 have chosen full-time studies and 1,091 part-time studies. We have recorded a total of 5,095 enrolments in 1st cycle studies, 1,510 in 2nd cycle studies, and 1,375 in long-cycle studies. The new students will be studying in four cities: 5,783 have enrolled in Katowice, 1,685 in Sosnowiec, 325 in Cieszyn and 187 in Chorzów. The admitted students also include 80 Olympians.

Behind these figures lie future friendships, joint projects, new interests and ideas that we could hardly foresee today. There are also untold stories of great successes, as well as smaller ones, and of failures that serve as a driving force to search further and deeper, to rediscover oneself. It is worth giving yourself the chance to have such experiences: speak up in class, attend a research society meeting, take an interest in what others are working on. A conversation after a lecture can stay with you for a long time, and a question asked on the sidelines of a wider discussion may point the way to further exploration.

To those starting their studies, we wish you curiosity and the courage to ask questions, even about things that seem obvious to others. To those returning for further years of study, we wish you new inspiration and satisfaction from what you have already achieved. We wish you many meaningful experiences and hope you feel that there is a place here for you.

Welcome to the University of Silesia!
University – there’s #more to it!
